Incoming Viewmont High School sophomores will pick up their school-issued laptops, walk the hallways to find their classrooms, and get a first look at the clubs they can join when orientation fills the auditorium Monday, August 17, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The event gives the Class of 2029 three days inside the building before the first bell rings at 7:30 a.m. Thursday, August 20. For students who spent last year at Millcreek Junior High or Mueller Park Junior High, it's the first time navigating a full-size high school campus on their own.

The school posted the orientation details Monday, August 3, confirming three program elements: laptop pickup, a guided building tour, and a clubs-and-activities fair.

What to do before August 17

Families still have open checklist items, as we reported July 29:

  • Parking passes went on sale August 3 via an online form. No price or spot cap has been published.
  • Fees and waivers opened August 1 on myDSD. Required policy documents need a parent signature under the portal's Tools menu.
  • Device protection plan enrollment runs through Friday, September 4, purchased on myDSD under Optional Fees. Davis High School's registration letter lists the plan at $25, though Viewmont has not published its specific price.
  • Contact info changes should go through the Viewmont Counseling Office directly, not myDSD.

First week details

The first two days of school, Thursday, August 20, and Friday, August 21, will run a modified bell schedule for Viking Academy, Viewmont's advisory period. School pictures follow Monday, August 24, and Tuesday, August 25, during English classes, with a makeup day Wednesday, September 23.

Lockers are available at no cost through the Main Office. Yearbooks cost $52 through November 1, then $57.

Under Superintendent Dr. Dan Linford, the Davis School Board approved Student Electronic Device Policy 5S-105 on Tuesday, June 2, in a 5–1 vote, with board member Kristen Hogan dissenting. That policy governs how students use the laptops they'll pick up at orientation.
