Lane closures and a full southbound shutdown on I-15 in Farmington begin Friday, Oct. 2, as UDOT stripes new lanes for the Shepard Lane interchange.
The Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) will also install overhead signs during the weekend work, ABC4 reported. Northbound I-15 between North Station Lane and Park Lane narrows to a single lane from 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 2, to 8 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 3.
The bigger disruption comes Saturday night. Southbound I-15 between 200 North in Kaysville and Park Lane in Farmington, exits 328 to 324, will close completely from 10 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 3, to 6 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 4. The full closure covers lane striping and overhead sign installation, according to the ABC4 report.
Both closures are part of the Shepard Lane Improved project, which is building a new diamond interchange on I-15 at Shepard Lane. The project also includes north- and southbound auxiliary lanes between Shepard Lane and Park Lane, a new noise wall on the east side of I-15 and a direct connection from 1500 West to the interchange, according to UDOT's project page.
The new North Station Lane interchange over I-15 fully opened June 29 with four lanes in each direction. It added a 10-foot multi-use path, six-foot sidewalks and four-foot bike lanes, plus pedestrian bridges and an underpass connecting the Farmington FrontRunner station with Lagoon Amusement Park.
UDOT Region One Director Nathan Peterson said in a June 26 press release that the interchange "is an important step toward a more connected Farmington."
The Farmington City Council unanimously approved a $200,759 betterment agreement with UDOT in February 2024 to fund aesthetic improvements at the interchange, according to council minutes.
At a July 21 meeting, Council Member Amy Shumway raised concerns about confusing bike lane markings where Shepard Lane turns north onto North Station Lane, saying the lanes may need green paint for better visibility.
City Manager Brigham Mellor said striping tweaks were needed.
UDOT said the project was 75% complete as of late June and is estimated to wrap up by the end of 2026. Schedules are weather-dependent and subject to change. Drivers can check UDOT's traffic website or call the project hotline at 385-758-2040 for updates.
