North Salt Lake is getting its own library.

The Davis County Library will open a small satellite branch at 460 North Redwood Road, Suite D, on Saturday, Oct. 10, with a public celebration to mark the occasion. The library system announced the opening on X on Tuesday, Sept. 29, calling the new location a "sprout" in its "garden" of libraries.

The 1,500-square-foot branch will stock about 5,000 items and include space for small-group activities, story times and children's programming, according to North Salt Lake's city website.

Library Director Josh Johnson first outlined the plan at a North Salt Lake City Council meeting in July. The branch will stay open at least two years while the system evaluates the community's long-term need for library services in the city.

The new location is tied to the Bountiful Branch renovation. That library, at 725 S. Main St., closed Jan. 26 for an overhaul expected to last 18 months to two years, with a reopening targeted for mid-to-late 2027. The project includes seismic upgrades, a new roof, and replacement of plumbing, heating and electrical systems, according to KSL.

"We are going to renovate it so that it can serve the public for another 50 years," Johnson told ABC4 in January when the Bountiful Branch closed.

A small temporary library called "The Twig" has been operating at 85 N. Main St. in Bountiful during the renovation. The North Salt Lake sprout branch adds a second option for South Davis County residents who lost access to the full-size Bountiful location.

The Davis County Library system operates branches in Centerville, Clearfield, Farmington, Kaysville, Layton and Syracuse. Standard hours across the system are Monday through Thursday, 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., and Friday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Hours for the new North Salt Lake branch have not been confirmed.
