A free emergency preparedness fair comes to Farmington on Saturday, Sept. 26, days after a tornado touched down on a Davis County ridgeline.

The Davis County Emergency Preparedness Fair runs from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Western Sports Park, 25 N Sports Park Drive. The event features hands-on demonstrations, interactive classes, public safety agencies and emergency vehicles on display, according to Bountiful City's newsletter.

Admission is free.

The fair comes on the heels of a confirmed tornado that struck a mountain ridge east of Fruit Heights on Friday, Sept. 18. The National Weather Service said in its storm report that the tornado touched down "near a summit along the ridgeline extending west from Francis Peak around 7,500 feet elevation." KSL reported wind gusts reached 78 mph near Legacy Highway in West Bountiful, with large hail and localized street flooding across Davis County. The tornado hit an unpopulated ridgeline, and no structural damage to homes or businesses in Bountiful or Farmington was confirmed.

The fair is not new to Davis County. At the 2022 edition, more than 1,800 people attended, with 35 vendors, 10 informational booths and 30 seminars, according to Bountiful City Council minutes. A Utah National Guard Blackhawk medivac helicopter was on display that year. Councilmember Bell recognized organizer Cacey Bowen and the Bountiful Community Service Council for their work on the 2022 event. Bowen remains a contact for the 2026 fair, along with Louisa McDonald, according to the Davis County preparedness fair page.

Residents can also attend a Disaster Sanitation Town Hall focused on hygiene and sanitation during emergencies, hosted by the county two days before the fair. Details are in the calendar below, per the South Davis Sewer District.

Bountiful Farmers Market accepts SNAP/EBT this season

The Bountiful Farmers Market is accepting SNAP/EBT benefits for the 2026 season. The city first announced the program in June and promoted it again in its Sept. 17 newsletter. The market participates in Double Up Food Bucks Utah, a state program that matches SNAP purchases of fresh fruits and vegetables dollar for dollar, up to $20 per day. It also participates in Produce Rx, which provides eligible patients up to $300 for produce at participating markets and retailers, according to the Utah Department of Health and Human Services.

The market runs every Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m. at Bountiful Town Square, 75 E 200 S, through Oct. 15.
