Davis School District students head back to class Thursday, Aug. 20, which gives South Davis County families less than a week to burn off summer energy on coasters, trampolines and canyon trails.

Lora Eschtruth, writing for Discover Davis, the county's tourism office, published a multi-day thrill-seeker's itinerary Friday, Aug. 14, mapping out a route through Farmington, Woods Cross and the surrounding foothills. The new guide is aimed at adrenaline-seekers, a step up from the family hikes and paddles we highlighted in July. Here's what it covers and what residents need to know.

Lagoon's big rides, early

The guide steers visitors to Lagoon Amusement Park, 375 North Lagoon Drive in Farmington, at park opening. Lines are shortest then. The headliner is Cannibal, a $22 million steel coaster with a 208-foot enclosed elevator lift, a 116-degree beyond-vertical drop and speeds up to 70 mph. The ride opened in 2015 and remains the tallest coaster in Utah.

Other recommended rides include the launch coaster Wicked, the looping Colossus the Fire Dragon, the interactive 3D experience Primordial, and the water ride Rattlesnake Rapids for an afternoon cooldown.

The tourism office advises buying Lagoon tickets online in advance to skip the main entrance line.

Transit tip: UTA FrontRunner stops at Farmington Station, a short walk from both Lagoon and Station Park, where the itinerary suggests ending each evening with patio dining by the fountain.

Fly High Adventure Park in Woods Cross

Day three of the itinerary starts at Fly High Adventure Park, 2119 South 1200 West in Woods Cross. The indoor facility is open seven days a week and offers wall-to-wall trampolines, ninja warrior obstacle courses, foam pit stunt jumps, drop zones, parkour and an arcade. Monthly memberships run $39.95 and include two hours of jumping daily.

Families from Bountiful, North Salt Lake and Centerville are all within a short drive.

Farmington Canyon and mountain trails

For riders with an OHV or 4x4, the guide recommends Farmington Canyon for high-elevation dirt trails and cliffside views along the Wasatch Skyline. The U.S. Forest Service confirms Farmington Canyon Road, Skyline Drive, Farmington Flats Loop and Francis Peak Road are all open as of Friday, Aug. 14.

Mountain bikers can hit the Fruit Loops trails in Fruit Heights, which feature fast berms, jump lines and rollers on flowy singletrack along the mountain bench.

Before you go

Lagoon's coasters run through September. Discover Davis recommends the late May through September window for full ride operations and optimal trail conditions. A personal vehicle is needed for canyon trailheads, but FrontRunner covers the Lagoon-to-Station Park corridor. No car needed for that stretch.

Davis School District's first day, Aug. 20, is an early-out day for elementary students.
