Two contested races for Davis School Board seats will go before voters on the Tuesday, Nov. 3, general election ballot.

In District 3, incumbent Julie Powell faces challenger Alison R. Dunn. In District 6, incumbent Kristen Hogan faces challenger Jane Neal. Both races are nonpartisan, according to the Davis County sample ballot. In Districts 5 and 7, incumbents Michelle Barber and Emily Price are running unopposed.

The seven-member board governs all Davis School District schools, the second-largest district in Utah with more than 72,000 students as of the 2023–2024 school year, according to Ballotpedia. Superintendent Dan Linford leads the district. Board votes on budgets, staffing and curriculum shape classrooms across Davis County, including campuses in Bountiful, Woods Cross, North Salt Lake and Farmington.

All four seats carry four-year terms. A primary had been scheduled for June 23 but was canceled after fewer than three candidates filed for each seat, according to Ballotpedia.

What's known about the candidates

Powell has served on the board since January 2023 and chairs its Audit Committee, according to Ballotpedia and district meeting records. Hogan has also served since January 2023 and presented at the board's Aug. 18 workshop. Price, the board's vice president, joined in January 2023. Barber joined in December 2023.

Candidate forum and voter deadlines

The League of Women Voters of Davis County will host a candidate forum on Monday, Oct. 5, at 6 p.m. at the Clearfield library auditorium, 1 N. Main St. The event will also be live-streamed via Zoom.

The last day to register to vote is Friday, Oct. 23. Ballots must be received by 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 3.
