Bountiful seniors aged 60 and older can fill their August calendars with a luau party, an art show, a violin concert, free nutrition classes, and a movie screening at the South Davis Senior Activity Center, 726 S 100 E.
The center, operated by the Davis County Health Department, published its August programming schedule on Friday, July 31.
Art Show Social — Thursday, August 6
The month kicks off with an Art Show Social from 10:15 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. on Thursday, August 6. Seniors who take painting, stained glass, and other art classes at the center will display their work for fellow members.
Student Violin Concert — Wednesday, August 19

Movie Day — Friday, August 21
The center screens "A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood," starring Tom Hanks as Mr. Rogers, at 12:45 p.m. on Friday, August 21, to mark National Senior Citizens Day. Soft pretzels, popcorn, drinks, and sweets are included.
All-Center Luau Party — Thursday, August 27
All three Davis County senior centers come together for a luau at 11 a.m. on Thursday, August 27, at the Central Davis Senior Activity Center, 81 E Center St., Kaysville. The menu: pulled pork, mac salad, rice, watermelon, and snow cones. Bountiful members should RSVP at their home center by calling (801) 451-3660.
Free nutrition classes with fresh produce
A NOURISH ED class, run by Utah State University Extension's Hunger Solutions Institute, meets at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, August 14. Each participant takes home a bag of fresh produce from local growers and matching recipes. The program is part of the Create Better Health (Utah SNAP-Ed) curriculum. Additional sessions are scheduled for Friday, September 4, and Friday, October 2. Registration is required; call (801) 451-3660.
Free legal presentation in October
Utah Legal Services, a nonprofit legal aid organization that serves qualifying adults including those 60 and older, will hold a free presentation at the South Davis center at 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, October 21. The session includes time for questions. The nonprofit assisted more than 9,000 clients last year with housing, family safety, and income security issues.
Need a ride?
Seniors without transportation can book the county's Rides4Health service, a curb-to-curb ride to the center or any non-emergency appointment. A $10 suggested contribution per round trip is appreciated but not required. Rides must be scheduled at least three business days ahead on a first-come, first-served basis. Call 801-525-5061.
Beyond the special events, the center's weekly lineup includes EnhanceFitness, Tai Chi for Arthritis, Gentle Yoga, Line Dancing, Pencil Drawing, Watercolor, Bingo, Pickleball, Bridge, and a monthly Book Club and Dementia Support Group.
Activity sign-ups open at noon on the first Monday of each month.
