Farmington, Woods Cross and Viewmont all opened the 2026 high school football season with victories Friday, Aug. 14, while Bountiful dropped a 25-14 nonregion road loss at Herriman.
The four South Davis County programs kicked off at 6 p.m. in a statewide Friday slate that featured 55 games across Utah.
Farmington 14, Bingham 11
Owen Morris delivered the finish coach David Fiefia's Phoenix needed.
Morris drilled a 21-yard field goal with 12 seconds left to lift Farmington (1-0, Class 6A) past visiting Bingham. The Phoenix trailed 8-3 entering the fourth quarter before mounting a furious rally. Ty Runyan hauled in a 28-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Alton Dahl to put Farmington ahead, and after Bingham's Beckham Greaves answered with a 3-yard scoring catch from Knox Dawson with 6:49 remaining to reclaim the lead, Morris stepped up for the game-winner, according to KSL's game-night recap.
Morris also connected on a 39-yard field goal in the third quarter.
Woods Cross 27, Syracuse 26
The Wildcats survived a one-point thriller.
Running back Tage Ita powered Woods Cross (1-0, Class 5A) with a pair of rushing touchdowns in the 27-26 nonregion win over Syracuse. Published recaps did not detail scoring beyond Ita's two scores, but the final margin tells the story: Woods Cross held on when it mattered in a game that validates preseason expectations for a team picked to contend in Region 6.
Viewmont 24, Bonneville 0
Coach Andru Jones' Vikings made a statement.
Austin Cannon torched Bonneville's secondary on a 55-yard touchdown reception from quarterback Cash Hawkins to open the scoring, and Viewmont (1-0, Class 5A) never looked back in a shutout at home, according to the Deseret News roundup. Jesse Johnson punched in a 2-yard touchdown run to make it 14-0 at halftime, Miles Frey added an 8-yard rushing score in the third quarter, and Ethan Pitt tacked on a 30-yard field goal. Bonneville entered the season carrying a 13-game losing streak.
Herriman 25, Bountiful 14
Bountiful (0-1, Class 5A) couldn't overcome a 19-0 halftime deficit at Herriman, where Mustangs running back Fillisi Filipe scored three touchdowns, including a 54-yard burst in the first quarter and a 73-yard dagger with 1:14 remaining.
Coach Jason Freckleton's Redhawks showed fight in the fourth quarter. Madden Parks scored on a 3-yard run, and quarterback Hudson Malmrose hit Max Feller on a 38-yard touchdown pass to cut the deficit to 19-14 before Filipe's final score, according to the Deseret News game summary.
BYU recruit and safety Lakepa Satuala, the younger brother of Cougars safety Faletau Satuala, suited up for the Redhawks.
Week 2 lookahead
Farmington's schedule lists Bountiful as its Week 2 opponent, while Bountiful's schedule shows Morgan. Viewmont hosts Cyprus, looking to build on its dominant opener. Woods Cross' Week 2 opponent has not been confirmed.
