Farmington residents will get their first chance to weigh in on a proposed subdivision along Phoenix Way when the Planning Commission holds a public hearing on Thursday, Sept. 3, at 7 p.m. at City Hall, 160 South Main St.

The proposal covers three parcels at 638, 658 and 678 South Phoenix Way, the street also known as 650 West. The applicant is seeking approval of a Schematic Subdivision, a Preliminary Planned Unit Development designation and a Development Agreement for what the city is calling the Phoenix Way Subdivision.

The hearing notice, posted Aug. 25 by planning secretary Carly Rowe, does not identify the developer, the number of proposed lots or the current zoning of the parcels. Those details are expected in the full Planning Commission packet, which had not been posted as of Wednesday, Aug. 26.

What happens next

Under Farmington's municipal code, the Planning Commission reviews PUD applications at a public hearing and then makes a recommendation to the City Council. The council holds its own public hearing before making a final decision. No City Council hearing date has been scheduled.

Phoenix Way runs adjacent to Farmington High School. The Farmington City Council unanimously renamed the street from 650 West to Phoenix Way on Sept. 5, 2023, after student body officers requested the change to honor the school's mascot.
