Wallets, cash and other unclaimed items sitting in the Davis County Sheriff's Office evidence room will be destroyed or turned over to public use if no one claims them by Tuesday, Aug. 25.

Sheriff Kelly V. Sparks' office posted a public notice on Tuesday, Aug. 11, listing found and recovered property held at its Crime Lab facility at 800 W. State Street in Farmington. The items span more than a decade, with the oldest entry dating to April 30, 2012.

The deadline is firm.

The notice includes multiple entries of unclaimed currency, at least one wallet and several items logged simply as "found property" or "found money." One item is described as "found property" recovered at a Smiths Market location in April 2024. Five separate "found money" entries from April 2025 have no names attached.

Named individuals on the list include Jonathan Hernandez, Jeremy Pettingill, Whitney Blair, Raymond Roberts, Kayla Cooper, Erwin Johnson, Lucie Aiello, Robert Wyman and Anthony Smith, with associated case dates ranging from 2012 through 2025.

Under Utah Code 77-11d-105, law enforcement agencies must publicly post notice before disposing of lost or mislaid property. The agency cannot destroy or transfer items until at least eight days after publication. If no claim is made after that window, items may be applied to public interest use or destroyed.

The Bountiful Police Department ran a similar notice under the same statute earlier this summer, with a disposal deadline of June 26.

How to claim property

Residents who believe an item belongs to them must bring a current photo ID and proof of ownership, either a purchase receipt or a description of distinguishing features not already listed in the notice, including VIN or serial numbers where applicable.
