Families using Davis County Library branches in Bountiful, Woods Cross, North Salt Lake and Farmington will have a stake in Thursday's library board meeting, where directors will vote on a $31,853 state grant that can be used for children's materials, programming and technology across the system's eight branches.

The board's Aug. 13 agenda shows Library Director Joshua Johnson will present the Community Library Enhancement Fund grant from the Utah State Library for ratification. The one-year agreement runs July 1, 2026, through June 30, 2027.

CLEF grants are awarded annually to certified public libraries statewide and may be spent on collection development, including children's materials, video materials and online databases, as well as programming and technology, according to the Utah State Library. The agenda lists the grant as a receivable, meaning the $31,853 flows into the Davis County system from the state.

The specific breakdown of how Davis County Library plans to allocate the money was not included in the publicly posted agenda.

South End construction update

Johnson will also brief the board on the South End construction project. Davis County's capital plan lists a "South Project" with $6 million in bond proceeds, which appears to correspond to the South End update on Thursday's agenda. The county authorized up to $6.2 million in Sales Tax Revenue Bonds in 2025 for library renovations and improvements countywide. No timeline, location or detailed cost breakdown for the South End branch has been made public.

The capital plan also lists contingent future projects labeled Southwest, Northeast and Northwest, though none are funded or scheduled.

Bountiful renovation ongoing

The library system's largest active project remains the $12 million Bountiful branch renovation at 725 S. Main St. That branch closed Jan. 26 for work expected to last 18 months to two years. A temporary location at 85 N. Main St. in Bountiful is operating with a collection of about 26,000 items, down from the permanent branch's nearly 110,000.

"I think this is a great way to improve the building and offer modern services in a building that was built and it's still kind of historical," Johnson told KSL in January when the Bountiful branch closed.

Both the Bountiful renovation and the South End project draw on a 2017 Davis County tax increase dedicated to remodeling or rebuilding library locations.

Other action items

The board will also certify the library's annual compliance with the Children's Internet Protection Act, a federal requirement for the eRate program that provides discounted internet service. Additional ratifications include a quarterly donation log totaling $2,184 and a low-dollar contract summary of $11,914.

The meeting begins at 1 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 13, at the Library Headquarters Staff Conference Room, 133 S. Main St., Farmington. The public may attend in person. The next board meeting is scheduled for Sept. 10.
