Bountiful residents who want to learn search-and-rescue, fire suppression and emergency triage alongside their neighbors can sign up now for the city's fall CERT Basic Course. Registration closes Sept. 3. The $60 class starts Sept. 10.
The six-week Community Emergency Response Team course, co-hosted by the Bountiful Neighborhood Emergency Preparedness Council and South Davis Metro Fire, meets Thursday evenings from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. at Fire Station #81 Headquarters, 255 South 100 West, Bountiful. Sessions run Sept. 10, 17 and 24 and Oct. 1, 8 and 22, with a mock disaster exercise Saturday, Oct. 24, at 9 a.m. at the Bountiful Police Firing Range.
The curriculum covers search and rescue, basic medical triage, fire suppression, emergency communications, hazardous materials and disaster psychology, according to the city's Aug. 20 newsletter.
Bountiful's CERT program draws on a deep volunteer bench. At the Sept. 27, 2022, City Council meeting, former preparedness council leader Rob Hunter said "many cities have a difficult time finding one or two CERT instructors, but Bountiful has fifty amazing instructors."
To register, visit BountifulPrep.org/cert and click the CERT CLASS box, call South Davis Metro Fire at 801-677-2400 or email [email protected]. A hybrid online and in-person option through Kaysville City is also available starting in September; email [email protected] for details.
