The Bountiful Library remodel at 725 S. Main St. is headed to the City Council for a final vote Tuesday after the project appeared before the Planning Commission for review and recommendation on Aug. 4. The council's Aug. 11 agenda now lists the item for approval, the procedural signal that the commission forwarded it.

Senior planner Amber Corbridge will present the architectural and site plan at the council's 7 p.m. regular session at City Hall, 795 S. Main St. The library remodel is item 8.

The Planning Commission's role is to review site plans and forward a recommendation. It does not grant final approval. The commission met at 6:30 p.m. Aug. 4 in the Council Chambers, according to the posted agenda.

What the remodel includes

The Davis County-led project has been in the works since at least late 2025, when city engineer Lloyd Cheney presented preliminary design elements at a Dec. 9, 2025 council work session. Those plans called for a new parking lot layout, relocation of the crosswalk on Main Street, removal of the existing Main Street entrance to allow more front parking, a plaza on the north side of the building and a deck addition.

Cheney noted that the crosswalk's exact location would depend on where the new BRT bus stop is placed.

The city and county also agreed to a land swap of two parcels, each roughly 5,500 square feet, between the library site and the adjacent senior center site to make the improvements work. The full council agreed to the swap and the preliminary design at that session.

County-city coordination

The library sits on the Bountiful City Hall campus but is operated by Davis County. City Manager Gary Hill noted in a January 2026 staff report that coordination with Davis County Library Director Josh Johnson "has been excellent."

The Bountiful branch closed Jan. 26 for a renovation originally described as lasting up to two years. Staff have also been exploring improvements to a pedestrian trail connection between the library area and the adjacent stream corridor.

As we reported Aug. 7, design details and cost estimates were not included in the publicly available portion of the Aug. 11 council agenda packet. No public cost estimate for the remodel has been released.

What's next

Residents can attend the Tuesday, Aug. 11 council meeting at 7 p.m. at City Hall to hear the presentation and offer public comment before the vote. A 6 p.m. work session on South Davis Metro Fire policy changes precedes the regular session.
