All four South Davis County high school football teams lost in Week 4 nonregion play, dropping Bountiful, Woods Cross and Viewmont to 2-2 and Farmington to 1-3.
The Bountiful Redhawks fell 37-14 at Morgan on Thursday, Sept. 3. The Trojans' Owen Gilson connected twice with Owen Belliston for touchdowns, and Morgan added three rushing scores from Miles Sydenham, George Thurston and Rhett Larsen. Easton Lowe caught two touchdown passes to lead Bountiful's offense, but the Redhawks trailed throughout, according to KSL Sports.
Bountiful entered the game ranked No. 15 in the KSL Sports Rewind Top 25 after opening the season 2-1 against three 6A opponents. Coach Jason Freckleton's squad had ridden a 36-33 Week 3 win over Syracuse into the Morgan matchup.
Freckleton said after that Syracuse victory on Aug. 29 that he was proud of the team effort, singling out Braden Boucha for scoring in all three phases. "Everyone on the team supported and believed in each other," he told the Deseret News.
That momentum stalled against the Trojans.
Woods Cross falls on last-second throw
The Woods Cross Wildcats lost 35-28 at Snow Canyon on Friday, Sept. 4, after Snow Canyon quarterback Parker Olson threw a 38-yard touchdown pass to Issaiah Thompson with 22 seconds left. Olson finished with four touchdown passes, two to Thompson and two to Brett Bethers, the Deseret News reported.
Sam Bahr ran for two touchdowns for the Wildcats, per KSL Sports. Mak Trimming gave Woods Cross a jolt early in the fourth quarter with an 89-yard interception return. But Snow Canyon's offense answered in the final seconds.
Woods Cross entered the week ranked No. 18 in the KSL Top 25.
Farmington overwhelmed by American Fork
Farmington fell to No. 5-ranked American Fork on Friday, Sept. 4. Cavemen quarterback Jake Matsen threw four touchdown passes, connecting twice with Cash Taiese. Farmington's Easton Hunt returned an interception 52 yards for a touchdown midway through the third quarter to pull the Phoenix within 24-13. American Fork then closed the game on a 17-0 run to pull away for a 41-13 win.
The loss dropped Farmington to 1-3.
Viewmont's late rally falls short
Viewmont lost 28-21 to Weber on Friday, Sept. 4. Weber's Creed Devries caught a 30-yard touchdown pass from Carter Payne with 3:34 remaining to push the Warriors' lead to 28-14. Viewmont quarterback Brett Tovey answered eight seconds later with a 65-yard touchdown strike to Damon Frey, but the Vikings could not complete the comeback.
Tovey threw three touchdown passes in the loss. Weber's Wyatt Neilson ran for two scores.
All four South Davis County programs now carry at least two losses heading into region play. Week 5 schedules had not been posted as of Sept. 5.
