Pages Lane in Bountiful is shut down near I-15 and won't reopen until late January.
The stretch between 475 West and 550 West closed Oct. 15 and will remain closed through Jan. 25, 2027, according to the FrontRunner 2X project website. Crews are relocating and reconstructing drainage facilities beneath the road to make room for new double track being built as part of the FrontRunner 2X commuter rail expansion.
No one gets through the work zone. Drivers, pedestrians and cyclists all need to find another route.
The recommended detour is 400 North in West Bountiful to cross I-15. The project site warns commuters to expect heavier traffic on that road, especially during peak hours, and to watch for more pedestrians on detour routes.
Mitch Shaw, senior communication manager for UDOT Region 1, told the Davis Journal on Oct. 15 that the closure covers a small area. "You can't drive, walk or ride a bike there. You'll have to find a detour," Shaw said.
Shaw said winter weather should not delay the project because crews won't be managing traffic through the zone. Work will run from sunup to sundown, shifting with the season to avoid disturbing residents at night.
Nearby businesses will remain open, Shaw said, with alternate access into surrounding subdivisions still available.
What's behind the closure
The Utah Transit Authority (UTA) and the Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) are partnering on FrontRunner 2X, a project to add double tracking at 11 locations along the commuter rail line. The upgrades aim to boost peak-hour train frequency to every 15 minutes, up from every 30 minutes, according to the project's main page.
Construction across the full project is expected to last more than three years. The agencies are applying for a federal Capital Investment Grant from the Federal Transit Administration, and the overall schedule depends on that funding.
What residents should know
The Oct. 22 issue of the Bountiful City e-newsletter advised residents to allow extra travel time and use caution near construction zones. The city also noted some noise, dust and vibrations are expected during daytime work hours.
The established train quiet zone will remain in effect during construction. Train horns may still sound near the work zone when workers or equipment are present near the tracks, as required by federal and local safety rules.
FrontRunner service will not be affected during the closure.
