Personal fireworks are legal in parts of Bountiful and Farmington during the Pioneer Day window of Wednesday, July 22, through Saturday, July 25, but the rules vary block by block. Residents who light up in the wrong zone face a Class B misdemeanor.

Gov. Spencer Cox announced a "hybrid" approach for Pioneer Day that lets individual cities set their own restrictions rather than imposing a statewide ban, according to ABC4 Utah. That means Bountiful's Ordinance 2026-04, adopted unanimously on Monday, May 12, is the operative rule locally.

Under Utah state code, Class C fireworks may be discharged between 11 a.m. and 11 p.m. on Wednesday, July 22, through Saturday, July 25. On Pioneer Day itself, Friday, July 24, the window extends to midnight.

Where fireworks are banned in Bountiful

Under the ordinance signed by Mayor Kate Bradshaw and passed by all five council members (Beth Child, Dan Bell, Richard Higginson, Matt Murri, Millie Segura-Bahr), Class C fireworks are prohibited at all times in the permanent eastern hillside zone: east of Bountiful Boulevard, and north of 400 North east of 900 East.

A second, hazardous-conditions zone bans fireworks until December 29, 2026:

  • East of 400 East from Pages Lane to 500 South
  • East of Orchard Drive from 500 South to the North Salt Lake border

Bountiful City confirmed the boundaries on X on Tuesday, June 24, writing that fireworks "are prohibited east of Orchard Drive/400 East."

South Davis Metro Fire Interim Chief Jeff Larsen recommended the restrictions in an April 13 letter to the city, citing "a buildup of flash fuels along with previous years undergrowth, further elevating the threat of wildland urban-interface fires."

City Attorney Brad Jeppsen told the council the ordinance contains the same restrictions that were in place last year, with the same boundaries and dates.

Farmington

Farmington restricts all fireworks east of Main Street and 200 East, according to the ABC4 guide published Monday, July 21. The same state-code hours (11 a.m. to 11 p.m., midnight on July 24) apply.

Woods Cross and North Salt Lake

No separate Pioneer Day fireworks announcement from Woods Cross or North Salt Lake was found in city records. Both cities are served by South Davis Metro Fire; residents should check their city websites for current restriction maps.

For the Fourth of July period, South Davis Metro Fire banned all personal fireworks across Bountiful, Centerville, West Bountiful, Woods Cross, and North Salt Lake. That blanket ban does not apply to Pioneer Day under the governor's hybrid approach.

Handcart Days fireworks

Bountiful's professional Handcart Days fireworks show is scheduled for Saturday, July 25, at 10 p.m. at Mueller Park Junior High. The display is exempt from the personal fireworks ban because of on-site fire resources and a certified operator. The Handcart Days celebration runs Friday, July 24, through Saturday, July 25, with a parade on Main Street and activities at Bountiful City Park.
