All personal fireworks are banned in Bountiful, Centerville, West Bountiful, Woods Cross, and North Salt Lake through Saturday, July 25. Anyone caught lighting them faces a class B misdemeanor charge and financial liability for property damage.
South Davis Metro Fire Administration announced the ban extension on Monday, July 20, citing extreme drought, high temperatures, and low humidity that have persisted since the start of the month. The agency described conditions as creating "extreme and heightened wildfire danger" across all five partner cities.
The ban covers all city limits. No designated fireworks zones exist in any of the five cities for the Pioneer Day holiday period.
Professional show still on
The ban does not apply to the professional fireworks show scheduled at Mueller Park Jr. High School in Bountiful on Friday, July 25. South Davis Metro Fire said pre-positioned fire department personnel will monitor that event.
Statewide context
The extension follows Gov. Spencer Cox's decision on Monday, July 20, to return fireworks authority to local municipalities for Pioneer Day rather than impose a statewide ban. Cox acknowledged the Wasatch Front remains at high risk.
"The Wasatch Front has not had much moisture at all," Cox said Monday, July 20. "We're still as bad or maybe worse than we were on July 4 in some cities."
More than 550 fires have burned over 378,000 acres in Utah in 2026, according to state fire data reported by KSL.
South Davis Metro Fire and its partner cities first banned personal fireworks in late June, aligning with Cox's Executive Order 2026-04, signed Thursday, June 25. That order declared a state of emergency after 354 wildfires burned 141,743 acres and human activities caused at least 75% of them.
How to report violations
Residents who see illegal fireworks should call the non-emergency dispatch line at 801-298-6000. Do not call 911 unless there is an active fire or injury.
The agency first recommended fireworks restrictions in an April 2026 letter to Bountiful City, citing snowfall deficits and wildland-urban-interface fire risk. Bountiful City Ordinance 2026-04, signed by Mayor Kate Bradshaw on Monday, May 12, established permanent restrictions in high-risk eastern areas and classified violations as a class B misdemeanor under Utah law.
