Farmington's fire department and a local veterans group will mark the 25th anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks with a public ceremony Friday, Sept. 11.

The Patriot Day ceremony begins at 8 a.m. at Farmington City Fire Department Station No. 71, 82 N. 100 East. The John W. Sheets American Legion Post 27, a Farmington veterans organization chartered in 1919, is co-hosting the event with the fire department.

The City of Farmington announced the ceremony on its official social media accounts Sept. 4, calling it a solemn observance honoring the victims and first responders who died on Sept. 11, 2001. The attacks killed 2,977 people, making them the deadliest terrorist attack in U.S. history.

The event is free and open to the public. Organizers recommend attendees bring a folding chair.

The fire department and Post 27 have not released details about the ceremony's program, including speakers or duration.

Farmington's ceremony is one of at least two 9/11 observances in Davis County on Friday. The Davis Journal's community calendar also lists a 6 to 7 p.m. event at Ed Kenley Amphitheater in Layton.
