Families across Bountiful, Woods Cross, North Salt Lake, and Farmington have three weeks left of summer break. Davis School District classes begin Thursday, August 20, for all grade levels, with an early-out day for elementary students.

The start date, confirmed in ABC4 Utah reporter Sorina Trauntvein's statewide roundup published Tuesday, July 28, applies to the district's roughly 71,400 students at 96 schools. A specific dismissal time for the elementary early-out has not been announced districtwide; parents should check their individual school's schedule closer to the first day.

New school on the block

The district is also welcoming Still Water Elementary for the 2026-27 year. The mascot? An otter. Davis School District announced the opening on X in April.

Stuff the Bus wraps August 2

Before backpacks hit hallways, United Way of Salt Lake/Davis is trying to fill 7,425 of them. The organization's Stuff the Bus donation drive runs through Sunday, August 2, with a goal of collecting 131,096 school supplies. Of those packed backpacks, 1,260 are earmarked for Davis School District schools.

Summer events calendar before the bell rings

Plenty of free community events remain on the calendar for families squeezing the last drops out of summer:

  • Monday, August 3: America250 guided hike, Holbrook to Christmas Tree Farm, 6-9 a.m.
  • Thursday, August 6: Summerfest Eve Dance Party featuring a Navajo drum circle, 7:30 p.m. at Bountiful Town Square, hosted by the Bountiful Davis Art Center.
  • Friday-Friday, August 7-8: BDAC Summerfest, noon to 8 p.m. at Bountiful City Park. Free art, music, food, and culture.
  • Fridays through August 21: Free Summer Concert Series, 7 p.m. at Bountiful City Park (400 N. 200 W.).
  • Thursdays through October 15: Bountiful Farmers Market, 4-8 p.m. at Bountiful Town Square (75 E. 200 S.). SNAP/EBT accepted. As we reported July 28, the market accepts electronic benefits.
