Davis School District board members got their first look inside the new Career and Technical Education building going up at Bountiful High School on Tuesday, July 28. The building is the first piece of a phased plan to eventually replace the entire campus.
Board members rode a bus from the district office to three construction sites: the new CTE buildings at Bountiful High and Clearfield High, plus the Catalyst Center Phase 2 expansion in Kaysville, according to a district article published Tuesday. They walked through classrooms, labs, and instructional spaces while discussing progress with the district's Facilities Administrator and CTE Director. Members of the Superintendency also participated.
The district said programs housed in each new facility are based on workforce demand and the specific needs of the communities those schools serve. Specific career pathways for the Bountiful High building have not been publicly announced.
Where the building sits
The new CTE building at Bountiful High (695 S Orchard Dr.) is going up where the driver's education range used to be. Davis School District Facilities Manager Weston Weeks told the Bountiful City Council on May 27, 2025, that ground had been broken and framing was underway. Some parking was lost to the construction footprint; the district plans to demolish the old CTE building and eventually restore those spaces.
"The hope is that both Clearfield and Bountiful High will receive funds with the next bond for their respective projects," Weeks said at that May 2025 council session, referring to the longer-term full-campus replacement. The new CTE building is the first phase of that work.
The bigger CTE picture
The board selected a contractor for the $100.5 million Catalyst Center expansion at its Tuesday, July 21 meeting. The Catalyst Center, located at 1265 Sportsplex Drive in Kaysville, serves students from every Davis County high school, including Bountiful and Woods Cross. Programs there include game development, video production, construction management, drone and aviation, AI engineering, and culinary arts. The center is one of a handful of Utah technical centers receiving CTE Add-On funds from the Utah State Board of Education, according to a February 2026 USBE audit report.
Utah requires every high school student to earn at least 1.0 CTE credit to graduate. The state's goal is that by school year 2029, half of all Utah graduates will complete a full CTE pathway, earn an industry-recognized credential, and participate in work-based learning.
What about Woods Cross?
Woods Cross High School (600 W 2200 S), the smallest comprehensive high school in Davis County, has no new dedicated CTE building in any publicly available construction plan. Woods Cross students can access the Catalyst Center in Kaysville, but the district has not released a school-level breakdown of CTE facility investment comparing campuses. Families who want that data can file a GRAMA request with Davis School District at davis.k12.ut.us.
Woods Cross has produced CTE pathway completers. A state recognition document highlights a Woods Cross graduate who completed the Commercial Art Pathway and received the CTE Secondary Pathway Completer Recognition Award, and another student who earned a DECA state championship in Human Resources Management.
What's next
No completion date has been set for the Bountiful High CTE building. The next regular Davis School District Board of Education meeting is Tuesday, August 4. The first day of school is Thursday, August 20.
