Students at Antelope Elementary in Bountiful gathered at the school flagpole Friday, Sept. 11, to mark the 25th anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.

The ceremony included the national anthem, the Pledge of Allegiance and a student performance of "Those Who Serve," according to a Davis School District announcement. Local police officers joined the school community as firefighters, police officers and members of the military were recognized for their service and sacrifice.

"Although most of us were not here that day, and our students were not yet born, it is important that we remember the courage, kindness and unity that followed," Principal Jennifer Pool said.

As students headed back inside, they lined up to give the officers high fives and fist bumps.

The school ceremony was one of several observances across Bountiful on Friday morning. Mayor Kate Bradshaw began the day alongside local first responders, honoring the 343 firefighters who died in New York on Sept. 11, 2001, Fox 13 reported.
