Farmington quarterback Alton Dahl threw three touchdown passes Friday, Sept. 11, powering the Phoenix past Woods Cross 41-17 in a nonregion game at Farmington.

The win snapped a three-game skid for Farmington (2-3). Woods Cross (2-3) has now lost three straight after a 2-0 start.

Woods Cross struck first. Archer Gale drilled a 19-yard field goal midway through the first quarter. Owen Morris answered with a 38-yard field goal for Farmington, and Thayne Boyle hauled in a 16-yard touchdown pass from Dahl with 11 seconds left in the period to give the Phoenix a 10-3 lead.

Tage Ita's 1-yard touchdown run tied the game at 10 early in the second quarter for the Wildcats. Farmington regrouped and took a 20-10 lead into halftime, capped by Morris's 39-yard field goal as time expired in the half.

Benson Rogers broke free for an 80-yard touchdown catch from Dahl with 2:56 left in the third quarter. Rogers finished with two of Dahl's three touchdown receptions. Vili Brown's 3-yard run got Woods Cross on the board one more time in the third, but Farmington pulled away in the fourth. Kyle Colledge punched in a 3-yard rushing score as the Phoenix sealed the 41-17 final.

Viewmont falls to unbeaten Layton Christian

In Bountiful, Layton Christian Academy rolled to a 55-14 win over Viewmont.

Colton Johns passed for five touchdowns to four different receivers for the Eagles (5-0), according to the Standard-Examiner. Jahmi Harrison-Bismillah caught scoring strikes of 27 and 33 yards on Layton Christian's first two drives. Luis Froehlich added a 17-yard touchdown reception to make it 20-0 early in the second quarter.

Viewmont quarterback Brett Tovey answered with two touchdown passes to cut the deficit to 20-14. The rally stalled when Synic Harvey turned a short Johns pass into a 54-yard score with 57 seconds left before halftime, pushing the Eagles' lead to 27-14.

Chris Munroe rushed for two second-half touchdowns. Kotoni Kitekeiaho and Henry Zinnecker also scored in the final two quarters as Layton Christian pulled away.

Rankings and the road ahead

Both Bountiful and Woods Cross dropped out of the KSL Sports Rewind Top 25 after Week 4 losses. Bountiful, previously ranked No. 15, fell 37-14 to Morgan. Woods Cross had been ranked No. 18.

Bountiful, which had a bye in Week 5, hosts Woods Cross on Friday, Sept. 18. Farmington also plays Friday, Sept. 18, as region schedules begin.
