Davis School District wants to grow its next principals from within its own teaching ranks. Educators interested in making the jump can learn how at a free Zoom session on Monday, Oct. 26.

The district posted an announcement inviting teachers and other educators to an Administrative Candidate Informational Meeting. The session will cover leadership opportunities across the district.

Davis School District operates 96 schools serving 72,499 students across Davis County, according to U.S. News & World Report. That scale means administrative vacancies open regularly at campuses across the county, including schools in Bountiful, Woods Cross and Farmington.

The district's superintendent followed the pipeline this meeting promotes. Superintendent Dan Linford started as a high school English teacher in 1999 and became assistant principal at Viewmont High School in Bountiful in 2006, according to a district profile published when he was named 2026 Utah Superintendent of the Year by the Utah School Superintendents Association.

Linford became Viewmont's principal in 2011 and served as a secondary director starting in 2016 before the board appointed him superintendent. He has led the district since July 2022.

When he received the award, Linford said leadership "is never an individual accomplishment. Whatever success people see in me is a reflection of outstanding teachers, principals, district leaders, board members, and community partners who have trusted one another and worked toward a common purpose."

The district said it is looking for leaders who value academic achievement and build connections with students, staff and families.

A July 2026 board workshop agenda listed Assistant Superintendent Chadli Bodily, Human Resources Director Greg Wilkey and Secondary Director Deanne Kapetanov as presenters on the district's hiring procedures. It is not clear from the Oct. 26 announcement which administrators will lead the Zoom session.
